Summary: Niccolo Machiavelli measures how much strength a ruler should have. He claims that a ruler should either have a strong army on hand, ready for battle at any moment in order to protect the state, or the state should be fully equipped to hide behind their walls in case of attack and in hope of intimidating their adversary to the point where they do not bother with them at all. Niccolo also claims that a ruler cannot possess soley good qualities since we do not live in an ideal world.
